We are thrilled to share that our latest title, Hope and Joy in Education: Engaging Daisaku Ikeda Across Curriculum and Context, has received a 2022 Society of Professors of Education (SPE) Outstanding Book Award! This is tremendous recognition by one of the oldest and most respected academic associations in the country. The Award was announced at the (virtual) SPE conference on Saturday, April 23 that was attended by more than 60 scholars in the field of education.

The award was announced by the chair of the book award committee, Dr. Pamela Konkol (Professor of Foundations, Social Policy and Research at Concordia University Chicago). Upon receiving the award, book co-editor Jason Goulah thanked the SPE book award committee for their acknowledgement of the book and shared his appreciation to all of the authors for their wonderful contributions as well as the Ikeda Center for its support. The full list of awardees can be found here.

Founded in 1902, the Society of Professors of Education is a professional and academic association open to all persons engaged in teacher preparation, curriculum studies, educational foundations, and related activities. The Society’s primary goal is to provide a forum for consideration of major issues, tasks, problems, and challenges confronting professional educators. Its members include both scholars and practitioners in education. Founding members include John Dewey, Charles DeGarmo, and Walter B. Jacobs.

Hope and Joy was developed by the Ikeda Center in association with Columbia University's Teachers College Press, who published it one year ago, in April 2021. Edited by Jason Goulah of DePaul University and Isabel Nuñez of Purdue University Fort Wayne, the book features more than 20 education scholars placing their own practice and pedagogy into dialogue with Daisaku Ikeda's writings on education to show where hope and joy are—and can be—strong and vibrant in schools and in all modes of education.
